Having been on a personal journey the last several years when my heart has been pulled in a million directions, it’s not a surprise that I found myself in a place where I knew something needed to change.
After the loss of my mom, I’ve felt a much stronger pull to really feeling all the beauty that is in this world and really wanting to get in touch with those feelings so that they translate when I am behind the camera. In short, I’ve been on a quest to find magic not only with the way I shoot, but in the deeper translation of story.
During this journey, I’ve always known that film photography would find its way in. Personally, I’ve been shooting a lot. I don’t necessarily share it all, but it’s there and it’s everything I needed. I’ve come to understand that this is a medium that enhances the stories I’m looking to tell for others. They are without a doubt their stories being told through my lens and a medium that has all the beautifully imperfect characteristics I’ve been looking for. The way light hits film, the softness of grain, the details, the timeless look, the color, the creativity it allows me. These are all things I never felt were all there in my digital work in the past. No matter how many people loved my images, I was not content.
Blogging the sweetest family that allowed me in and believed in me enough to shoot all film for their family session. I am so grateful for this day. A true blend of story and a creative medium. This is only the beginning.
